COSMO – SICILIAN MOBILITY CONSORTIUM
The Sicilian Mobility Consortium (COSMO) was established in June 2023 in Palermo as a concrete, structured and forward-looking response to the new challenges of public road transport in Sicily. The project takes shape from the shared initiative of two primary business realities in the sector, SAIS Trasporti S.p.A. and Interbus S.p. A., groups historically rooted in the Sicilian territory, who have chosen to combine skills, strategic vision and industrial know-how to create a new and solid regional mobility community.
In line with the regulatory and operational framework defined by the Sicilian Region, COSMO was conceived as a modern, efficient and sustainable consortium, capable of enhancing the experience of participating operators, promoting innovation and ensuring high quality standards in extra-urban Local Public Transport. The consortium model adopted also encourages the inclusion of additional operators who share values of excellence, social responsibility and attention to the territory.
To ensure effective and widespread service management, the COSMO Group has adopted a territorial organization divided into four consortium companies, each operating in its own area of competence:
- COSMO Nord
- COSMO Sud
- COSMO Est
- COSMO Ovest
This structure allows governance close to local needs, while maintaining a unified strategic vision.
In detail, COSMO Sud plays a central role in the Consortium's structure, as it is the lead consortium company of a group of enterprises that was awarded the contract for Local Public Transport services for Lot 4, covering the provinces of Enna, Agrigento and Caltanissetta.
The establishment of COSMO represents a historic step for Sicilian mobility: a project that merges the tradition and century-old experience of leading companies in the sector with a vision strongly oriented towards technological innovation, environmental sustainability and management efficiency. At the center of the Consortium's action are the passenger, continuous service improvement and the contribution to the economic and social development of the communities served.
